We recognise the dignity of work in all its forms, whether it is the fisherman setting out at dawn, the carpenter shaping wood with care, the teacher guiding young minds, or the professional navigating deadlines. In each of these, the spirit of St. Joseph finds a natural home.

St. Joseph’s life was not marked by public recognition or grand achievements. A simple carpenter, he worked with his hands, provided for his family, and carried out his responsibilities with quiet faith.

Our faith, too, is lived in a similarly understated way. While Goa is known for grand feasts and celebrations, much of its spirituality resides within homes, in family prayers and small acts of devotion. Even in moments of grief, when families gather to pray after the loss of a loved one, the familiar prayer to “Bhagevonta St. Juze” (Holy St. Joseph) is recited with faith and hope. In entrusting the departed soul to his care, we turn to him as a protector and guide, reflecting the deep trust generations have placed in his intercession.

His story also reflects the realities of many Goan families today. Just as St. Joseph journeyed into the unknown to safeguard his family, many continue to travel far from home in search of work, making sacrifices that often remain unseen.

Working “St. Joseph’s way” invites us to look at our daily responsibilities differently. It calls us to work with sincerity rather than for recognition, to remain patient in uncertainty, and to trust that even the smallest tasks have value in God’s eyes. Perhaps St. Joseph feels at home in Goa not because of grand shrines or large celebrations, but because his spirit already lives in its people, in the quiet worker, the devoted parent, and the many who build their lives and families with steady, faithful hands.

As we celebrate this feast, may we be inspired to transform our daily work into an offering humble, honest, and rooted in faith.

Bhagevonta St. Juze, amkam kedinch sandinaka.
