It is a solemn reminder that Jesus did not leave His people alone after His earthly life, death, resurrection, and ascension. Instead, He chose to remain with us in the Holy Eucharist, offering His Body and Blood as spiritual nourishment for the journey of life.

At the Last Supper, on the night before He suffered, Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist. The Gospel narrates how He took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to His disciples saying:

“Take and eat; this is my body.”

Then He took a cup and said,

“Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant.” (Mt: 26:26-28)

These words are not symbolic; they are the very foundation of Catholic Eucharistic faith. Jesus gave Himself completely to humanity under the appearances of bread and wine. Through every Holy Mass, this sacred mystery continues, and Christ becomes truly present among His people.

Before ascending into heaven, Jesus comforted His disciples with a beautiful promise: “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Mt: 28:20

This promise is fulfilled most perfectly in the Eucharist. Though Christ ascended into heaven, He remains continually present in the tabernacles of the world, in every celebration of the Holy Mass, and in every Eucharistic adoration chapel. The Eucharist is therefore not merely a ritual; it is the living presence of Jesus walking with His Church through every generation.

The Catholic Church throughout history has also been blessed with extraordinary Eucharistic miracles that strengthen faith in the Real Presence of Christ. From Lanciano in Italy, where the consecrated Host visibly transformed into human flesh and blood, to modern Eucharistic

miracles recognized by the Church, these events serve as signs pointing believers toward deeper reverence and devotion. They remind humanity that the Eucharist is truly sacred and that Jesus continues to reveal His love in miraculous ways.

These treasures of Eucharistic miracles are not meant to replace faith, but to awaken hearts that may have grown indifferent. In a world marked by materialism, division, violence, and spiritual emptiness, the Eucharist calls people back to the heart of Christ- a heart full of mercy, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

The Holy Eucharist also teaches believers how to live. Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ is not simply a personal devotion; it is a commitment to become like Christ in daily life. Two essential dimensions must guide every Christian life: prayer and action.

Prayer keeps us united with God. Through prayer, adoration, participation in the Holy Mass, and meditation on Scripture, the soul is nourished and strengthened. Just as the body needs food, the spirit needs communion with God. The Eucharist becomes the source of inner peace, hope, and holiness.

But prayer must always lead to action. Jesus who gave Himself in the Eucharist also washed the feet of His disciples and taught them to serve one another. Therefore, every Eucharistic believer is called to become bread broken for others through acts of charity, forgiveness, compassion, and justice. Faith without loving action becomes empty, while action without prayer loses its spiritual foundation.

The feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus is therefore an invitation to rediscover the greatness of Christ’s presence among us. Every tabernacle becomes a reminder that God has not abandoned His people. Every Mass becomes heaven touching earth. Every Holy Communion becomes a sacred encounter with the living Christ.

As believers receive the Body and Blood of Jesus, they are called to carry Him into the world through lives rooted in prayer and expressed in loving action. In doing so, the promise of Christ continues to shine through the Church:

“I am with you always.” says our Lord Jesus. Amen.

Adlete Mascarenhas

The solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ traditionally known as Corpus Christi is one of the most profound celebrations in the Catholic faith.
