There are moments in life when God’s presence becomes so real that it changes the way we see everything around us. The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord reminds us of one such moment. Jesus took Peter, James and John up a mountain to pray. There, His face shone with heavenly glory, His clothes became dazzling white and the disciples witnessed the divine majesty that had always been hidden beneath His humble humanity. Then they heard the Father’s voice:
“This is my beloved Son… listen to Him.”
The Transfiguration was more than a miraculous event. It was a glimpse of the Resurrection before the suffering on the Cross. Jesus strengthened His disciples for the trials ahead by revealing that God’s glory would ultimately triumph over pain and death. This message speaks to us today. Life often leads us through valleys of sorrow, disappointment and uncertainty. We may wonder where God is in our struggles. The Transfiguration assures us that even when His glory is hidden, His presence is never absent. Every cross we carry can become a path leading us closer to Him.
Peter wanted to remain on the mountain forever, saying, “Lord, it is good that we are here.” Yet Jesus led the disciples back down because their mission awaited them. In the same way, our moments of prayer and spiritual joy are not meant to separate us from the world but to strengthen us to serve it. We are called to carry the light of Christ into our families, our workplaces, and our communities through acts of love, mercy, and forgiveness.
The Father’s words still echo in our hearts today: “Listen to Him.” Amid the many voices competing for our attention, Christ alone speaks the words that lead to eternal life. When we listen to Him and follow His Gospel, our lives begin to reflect His light.
The Transfiguration also reminds us of our own destiny. Through Christ, we are called not only to witness His glory but one day to share in it. As we celebrate this feast, may we climb the mountain through prayer, encounter the Lord with renewed faith, and return to our daily lives carrying the hope, peace, and light that only He can give.
For the greatest miracle of the Transfiguration is not simply that Christ revealed His glory, but that He continues to transform all who walk faithfully with Him.
