Do you constantly worry about your child falling sick? Does every rainy season or change in weather seem to bring another cough, cold, fever, or allergy? Is your child frequently affected by recurrent respiratory infections, skin allergies, digestive problems, or low immunity? Despite providing healthy food, maintaining hygiene, and following the right dietary practices, does your child continue to fall ill time and again?

If your answer is yes, you are certainly not alone. Many parents share these concerns and often wonder what more they can possibly do.

The encouraging news is that there is much we can do to help strengthen a child’s natural immunity and overall well-being. Building immunity is not about finding a single solution but about nurturing the child physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially.

SIMPLE WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S IMMUNITY AND OVERALL HEALTH

Develop Healthy Nutrition Habits

Parents are their child’s first role models. Understanding the difference between nutritious foods and junk foods is important, but practising healthy eating as a family is even more important. Children imitate what they see far more than what they are told.

Nutritious breakfasts such as nachni (ragi), oats, rawa porridge, dosa, along with balanced home-cooked meals rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins, and adequate hydration, provide the body with the nutrients it needs to grow and fight infections.

Understand Every Child is Unique

Every child is wonderfully unique. Understanding your child’s interests, personality, strengths, and emotional needs plays an important role in their overall health. Children who feel accepted, understood, and encouraged often develop greater confidence, resilience, and emotional stability.

Declutter Your Home

A clean and uncluttered environment contributes to better health. Try to minimise unnecessary storage, especially in study rooms and bedrooms. Items kept with the thought “just in case required” often become dust collectors, increasing exposure to allergens. Keeping only what is needed not only creates a calmer, more peaceful home but also reduces dust and makes cleaning much easier.

Build Strong Connections

Spend quality time with your child. Listen to them without constantly interrupting or correcting them. Try to understand their perspective before reacting. Children who feel emotionally secure cope better with stress, develop healthier relationships, and often enjoy better overall health.

Discipline with Love

Healthy routines for sleep, meals, study, outdoor play, and screen time provide children with structure, security, and consistency. While discipline requires patience and persistence, it helps children develop responsibility, confidence, and lifelong healthy habits. Being apart of some consistent activity ,be it sports or music or art with the right environment, always helps build them in bountiful ways. It not only contributes to the discipline process but stimulates the brain development too. Besides making new friends ,learning to work in teams etc are several other benefits.

Be aware of Yourself

Apart from being a homoeopathic physician , being a counsellor, has brought this aspect to light time and again and I truly think, that self-awareness, is the most important need in any household. Every family member, every elder in the home, needs to be aware of their strengths ,weaknesses, and should choose to work on them accordingly. Displacement of emotions and frustrations is the root cause of many parent-child relations going sour. Many a times parents themselves are frustrated due to several reasons. Being aware and mindfully not throwing that frustration at the child is something we need to be careful of. Many a times in our counselling sessions with parents, parents unveil that ,the child not doing homework,or children not listening, wasn’t really the actual reason to lash out at them, but it was the parents own work frustration or other relationship frustrations, which were pent up, that just needed to be vented out, and very often children unfortunately become an easy target. So practice being aware and mindful. Remember, intention is everything.

At times despite parents best efforts, some children may continue to experience recurrent illnesses due to genetic factors, allergies, environmental triggers, or other underlying conditions. In such situations, timely medical evaluation is important. Depending on the child’s individual needs, different systems of healthcare may have a role as part of a comprehensive approach. At times integrative approach work well too.

One beneficial system to help restore health and build immunity ,is Homoeopathy ,a system that provides an individualized medical care , based on taking into consideration, not only the child’s physical complaints but also aspects ,such as emotions and trigger factors, while planning treatment. Having worked with children for over 13 years through school health programmes involving thousands of children, I have witnessed the power of homoeopathy meds to effectively deal with , the several health challenges faced by children, including recurrent respiratory infections, allergies, digestive complaints, skin conditions, and low immunity, for more lasting cures. One of the biggest misconceptions about homoeopathy is the narrative, it is slow to act. Those who experience ,know the benefits.

My experience has reinforced the importance of early intervention, healthy lifestyle habits, emotional well-being, parental involvement, and individualized medical care whenever required.

Regardless of the treatment chosen, every child benefits from a balanced diet, adequate sleep, regular physical activity, outdoor play, emotional security, good hygiene, and loving relationships.

A healthy child is not one who never falls sick, but one whose body can respond effectively and recover well. Healthy children grow into healthy adults, and investing in their holistic development today is one of the greatest gifts we can give them.

As parents, we cannot protect our children from every illness or every challenge in life. What we can do is provide them with a strong foundation of love, healthy habits, faith, emotional security, and resilience.. These gifts not only strengthen immunity but also help children grow into compassionate, confident, and healthy adults who are equipped to fulfil their God-given potential. Scientifically explaining, a secure emotional environment, helps regulate the body’s stress response ,which inturn supports a healthy immune responses.

To conclude, be it for you or your child, stay happy, stay blessed.

*(Free medical guidance -Every Friday 1.30pm-2.30pm -call on 9923417774)

Dr Trisha Torcato
MD (HOM), MS (Couns & Psy)
Clinic -Healthy Mind -Healthy Body (HMHB)
Homoeopathic Clinic & Counselling Center -Aquem

Are you a worried mom?
