Report of St. Sebastian Eng. Pri. School, Aquem From mid-June to mid-July ’18
1. International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2018 in our School. Tr. Reema demonstrated various Yoga exercises to the students and explained importance and benefits of Yoga. The logo for the international Day for Yoga celebration was explained to the students that is folding of both hands in the logo symbolize harmony and peace for humanity which is the essence of Yoga. The main motto of this celebration is to promote Yoga and create awareness of its benefits among students to increase concentration, to sharpen their memory and overall wellness. 1. 2. Feast of St. John the Baptist was celebrated on 23rd June 2018. Tr. Marina began the Celebration by relating a story on the life of St. John the Baptist. Questions were asked to ensure that the students understood the story and the values therein of concern, respect, faithfulness, humility and faith in God. Teachers organized a “copel” competition for the students. All the students enthusiastically participated in the competition. The aim of this celebration is to bring about the importance of the Saint for the role he played and the tradition being followed in Goa.
3. World Diabetes Day: It was observed on 28th June 2018 at the school. Tr. Supriya with the help of PowerPoint presentation spoke on the significance of the day and explained about types, causes, effects and ways to manage diabetes. She also spoke about World Diabetes Day logo which is a blue circle and its meaning. The aim of the programme was to spread awareness and to educate students about Diabetes and ways to prevent it and the treatment available.
4. Role of Monsoon Season (05.07.2018) School assembly on ‘Monsoon Season” was held on 5th July 2018 in our school. Teacher displayed the chart on “Water is Wealth” on the notice board. Teacher spoke on significance of monsoon season. Videos were shown to the students on importance and adverse effects of monsoon season. The objective of observing the day was to provide knowledge to the students about the role of monsoon season and the various methods to conserve water by harvesting it for future use.
5. First Friday Mass.It was held on 5th July at 12:00pm and was celebrated by Fr. Andrew Pereira, the Manager of the school. The theme for the mass was “Follow Jesus – Be renewed”. During the mass he spoke to the students and teachers about “Refuge” i.e excuses we make in our life. He also said “never give excuses for any work we are supposed to do in our day to day life, if we want to follow Jesus”. Teacher Valinca organised the choir. 6. School Soup DayIt was raining heavily, the humidity was very high and weather was cold on 6th July 2018. So the students of primary and pre-primary were served a hot bowl of soup to make them feel warm. They enjoyed the soup and asked for more.
7. Poster Making CompetitionPoster making competition was held on 9th July 2018 at the school. The topic for the competition was “FIFA World Cup 2018 – Russia”. The students of each class were divided into groups. The aim of this competition was to promote values such as co-operation, sharing, patience, respect for each other’s views and ideas, leadership skills, etc among students. Students prepared beautiful charts as per the criteria given to them.
8. Quiz CompetitionQuiz competition was held on 13th July 2018 on “FIFA World Cup 2018”. Total 70 questions were given to the students. The students of Std II, III and IV participated in this competition. The main aim of this competition was to acquire knowledge on Fifa World Cup about its organization, number of teams participating countries, location or the World map, coaches, Goal keepers, etc. and to create interest in Football game.
9. Colouring CompetitionIt was held on 14th July 2018. All the Students were given printouts of football to colour it according to the flags of any country which participated in FIFA World cup 2018. The aim of this competition was to improve students colouring skills and to know to identify the flags of other countries.10. Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated on 16th July 2018 in our school. The statue of Our Lady was decorated beautifully. Teacher in charge of Catechetical activities (TICCA) spoke on Mother Mary’s appearance to St. Simon Stock in a dream and explained the importance of wearing the scapular. The main aim of this celebration was to instill the values of faith in God and importance of wearing the scapular among students as a symbol of protection.
