The St. Sebastian Catechetical Association organized an overnight mission experience to Zogati Nature Farm, in Birondem village, Valpoi providing a unique opportunity for catechists to connect with the local community and deepen our faith. The farm belongs to the Archdiocese of Goa and is filled with abundance of flora and fauna. The trip was a perfect blend of spiritual enrichment and fun activities, allowing us to experience the scenic beauty and tranquility of the village.
The spiritual component of the trip included adoration before the Blessed Sacrament and Eucharistic celebration, bringing us closer to God. A highlight was a talk delivered by Mrs. Audrey, a Catechist from Birondem Church, sharing insights into the history of the village, the mentality of its people and the challenges they faced as catechists.
Our enjoyable leisure time was filled with as we enjoyed:
– Singing traditional Mando songs
– Dancing together
– Savoring delicious food
– Visiting the zogati nature farm
– Refreshing baths in the river
– Scenic boat rides
The visit to Birondem village was an eye-opening experience, highlighting both similarities and differences between the village and city life. We were inspired by the villagers’ unity, resilience and faith despite limited resources. Visiting Christian families and engaging with them was a highlight, showcasing their warmth and hospitality. We came across some villagers who converted themselves as Catholics, and what was heartening to see was their strong faith in Jesus Christ. The Catechists of our parish also generously donated groceries to the needy villagers of Birondem village. The overnight mission experience was a resounding success, offering a perfect blend of spiritual growth, learning and fun. The trip strengthened bonds within our group and provided a valuable opportunity to connect with the local community. We’re grateful for this experience, which will remain etched in our memories, inspiring us to be more grateful for our blessings and reach out to others with compassion and understanding.
