REPORT: St. Sebastian Church, Aquem, Youth Inaugural Programme

Theme: “Abide in Me” (John 15:4)

The Youth Inaugural of St. Sebastian Church, Aquem was successfully conducted with the inspiring theme “Abide in Me” (John 15:4). The celebration began with the Holy Eucharistic Celebration, which was beautifully animated and celebrated by the parish youth. During the Mass, the newly formed Youth Executive Committee and members solemnly took their Youth Oath, reaffirming their commitment to serve God, the Church, and the community with dedication and faith. A special highlight of the celebration was the release of the youth music video, “Mhoje Sovem Rigun Ravat,”  which was written by Fr. Ubaldo, inspired by the programme theme and symbolizing the youth’s desire to remain united with Christ. Following the mass, the gathering brought together the parish youth, parish leaders, and guests for a meaningful day of fellowship, faith, and spiritual growth.

The programme began with refreshments, allowing participants to interact and build friendships in a welcoming atmosphere. This was followed by a warm welcome extended to the Parish Priest and Youth Animator, Fr. Ubaldo, the guest speaker Fr. Menoy, Sr. Godwina, and all the youth present. The significance of the theme “Abide in Me” was highlighted, encouraging everyone to remain rooted in Christ and grow together in faith, love, and service.

An activity titled “Abide & Receive” was then conducted, where participants anonymously wrote Bible verses, prayers, words of encouragement, or messages of advice. These cards were later exchanged randomly, reminding everyone that God often speaks through one another. The gathering officially commenced with an opening prayer and hymn, invoking God’s blessings upon the programme.

The highlight of the programme was the interactive and inspiring session by Fr. Menoy, who engaged the youth through an activity before delivering a thought-provoking talk on the importance of abiding in Christ and embracing their responsibilities as active members of the parish. His message encouraged the youth to strengthen their relationship with God and contribute positively to the Church and society. A token of appreciation, consisting of a bouquet and an envelope, was presented to Fr. Menoy by Fr. Ubaldo on behalf of the parish youth.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to God, the priests, religious sisters, organizers, volunteers, and all the youth who participated. Finally, participants received a random “Abide & Receive” card to take home as a spiritual reminder of the day’s message.

The Youth Inaugural Programme was a memorable and enriching experience that strengthened the bonds among the parish youth while inspiring them to remain united in Christ. The event concluded on a joyful note, with everyone leaving encouraged to live out the message of “Abide in Me” in their daily lives
