Editorial – February 2023

We are back in a celebratory mood, getting into our best moods to celebrate the Novena and the Feast of our Patron, St. Sebastian. We can proudly claim that our Patron Saint, who had converted many people, especially soldiers, was a person of great help and support to his fellow brethren. Despite being given the post of captain under Emperor Diocletian, he secretly encouraged other soldiers to be true to their Faith and Christian values. On this occasion, we need to take a leaf out of St. Sebastian’s life and learn to be cheerful in living a Christian life, acquiring a sense of duty to glorify God and loving and helping others to lead a devout life. As a matter of fact, there is nothing more beautiful than someone, who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.

A couple of days after celebrating our Feast we start to observe the 40 days of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday on 22nd February 2023. This is the day when we finally decide on what we want to give up for the Lenten season. It’s day one of a new beginning, a better more virtuous you will exist in 40 days!! No matter how one chooses to observe it, the most important part of this day is that it makes you feel close to Christ, reminding us of the true meaning of the Lenten Season. As we head towards Lent, the time of Grace, let us seek God’s blessings of Faith and trust in Our Lord Jesus Christ’s promises made to us, namely: “I will be your strength”(Philippians 4:13) “I will fight for you”(Exodus 14:14) “I have plans for you”(Jeremiah 29:11) “ I will never leave you”(Hebrews 13:5) “I will give you peace”(Numbers 26:6) “I will always love you” “(1 John 4:16)  and “I hear your prayers “(Jeremiah 33:3).
