When I joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, I pledged that I would work like Christ, by obeying the greatest commandment – “Love God and love your neighbour”. This society is an Organisation of Catholic lay people who practice Christianity by helping those in need. I joined this society more than 20 years ago. When I first joined I did not know much about this society. But over the years, I have been deeply impressed with the work of St. Vincent de Paul conference.
First of all I thank God for bringing me close to Him. The society brings together a wonderful balance of prayer and activity. Something that has become an unchangeable element in the commitment of all Vincentians. Many members over the years have been so moved by the work in the Society that they have chosen to give themselves in the service of the Church. Our Spirituality lies in our actions of being more human. We are expected to find God, hidden in the poor, sick, lonely, handicapped and share with them our time and talents.Money and material things are not the essence of our mission, but spending time with them,to listen to their grievances, journeying with them to uplift their life spiritually and most importantly, emotionally. I feel privileged to be in the company of my brothers and sisters, working in the true Vincentian Spirit of our founder, Blessed Fredric Ozanam, with a focus on Self-Sacrifice and assisting the poor and the lonely. May Mary, Our Mother and Our Lord Jesus Christ give us the strength to continue His noble task.
