A famous author once said – ‘God could not be everywhere, so He created mothers. It’s not that the author denied that God is present everywhere, it’s just that he wanted to remind us that we experience God’s presence in a special way because of our mothers.
On the 8th of September, we Catholics celebrate the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary. This day is traditionally celebrated as Mother’s Day in our parishes. By virtue of divine motherhood, Mary has become mother of us all. What an amazing gift that is. Isn’t it?
Every year on this day I take a pause from my daily routine to thank God for my heavenly mother but also for my earthly mother who has done so much for me. What I am today is due to God’s blessings and human guidance. And in this human guidance my mother is there always leading the way.
I would like to jot down a few golden memories of my mother which I treasure so much, reminding her once more how important she is for me.
Every time I used to feel low, I could always count on my dearest mother. One hug from her would make me forget all my worries of life. My mother has always been by my side through thick and thin, the entire universe might be against you but your loving mother will always stand strong with you in any circumstances.
I still remember as soon as I used to reach home from school, the first thing I would search for is my mother. I am sure all of us too do the same as well.
My mother has played a major role in getting me close to prayer life. At a very young age she started teaching me all the prayers starting from Sign of the Cross, Rosary, Psalm 91, Divine Mercy, Memorare, etc and not to forget prayer to St. Anthony who has always been close to her heart which is why my middle name has it incorporated. Even when I used to have a slight temperature of 98.9°C she used to be in jitters and sit along with me reciting prayers and placing the cold compress on my forehead.
My mother being a teacher by profession, she used to take me along with her for all the possible trips, cultural activities, sports day, social activities, etc and taught me to cherish the highs and learn from the lows. I will always cherish every sweet memory and looking forward for more trips together.
Being my mother’s pet among us 3 siblings, she used to never allow me to step in the kitchen and gave me all the food on a platter. But I amazed her when I went for a long business trip to Australia where I had to cook my own food and do all the house chores alone. When I was back, she then allowed me to try my stunts in the kitchen under her supervision.
What my mother has done for me cannot be encompassed in these few words. Books would not suffice to express her goodness towards me but still may these few words I have penned make her realize what she means to me, how important she is to me. I love Mother Mary dearly, and I have seen many qualities of Mother Mary in my own mother. My love for my mother has increased my devotion to Mother Mary. That’s why on the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary these feelings for my mother overflowed from my heart.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the marvellous mothers out there! God bless all our mothers!
