Grand Parents Day

Happy Grandparents Day! These Words Uttered by the children are music to the grandparents’ears, especially in these times of nuclear families , How they await to hug and cuddle the little ones. To strenghten this bond, Pope Francis has established a Church-wide celebration of a World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Started in 2021, it is held on the fourth Sunday of July, close to the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. The Vatican announced that the third annual World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will take place this year on July 23.

The day honors the adorable bond between the grandparents and their grandchildren. After all, grandparents are the ones besides parents who love their grandchildren unconditionally. Countries worldwide celebrate Grandparents Day with great enthusiasm throughout the year on different days

Why is Grandparents Day so important?
The proclamation, establishing National Grandparents Day stated three distinct purposes: To honor grandparents; To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children; To help children become aware of strength, information and guidance, older people can offer.

Why do we respect grandparents?
Grandparents are truly a blessing in our lives. They are the ones who have made our parents the way they are. It is because of their upbringing that our parents love us immensely and care for us the same way our grandparents did when they were children. Moreover, grandparents are your support system.

Coming back to the grandparents of Jesus Can anyone fathom the love, values and the virtues that they imbibed in Jesus? I, Sometimes visualize Jesus sitting on the knee of St. Joachim listening to his stories and words of wisdom. Also St. Anne feeding Him delicious, nutritious meals accompanied with singing or words of advice.

So dear Grandparents make good use of the time you have with your grand kids, and enjoy them as they too enjoy your company.
