Editorial – November 2020

We are living in a world full of uncertainty, anxiety and fear. The impact of the Corona virus has been so severe that the extent of unimaginable damage to mankind has been stretched by the day.Adding to the misery are the huge scams and bulldozing of unwanted projects in the guize of progress and development.Today’s world is characterized by a loss of moral values and a lack of integrity. There is an absolute need for more integrity, whether it be in one’s personal life, the workplace or in society.Only integrity can save us as a nation and the whole human race.In the midst of it all,we need to thank the Almighty for being with us in these difficult times. We have come thus far with hope and confidence in God.Hope that things will turn out for the best…constantly looking forward to that positive outcome.
The proverbial phrase,’time and tide wait for none’ illustrates the importance of time to all of us.We have already reached the fag end of the year 2020.The month of November, which reminds us of”Aiz mhaka, faleam Tuka”, has arrived. This month is entirely devoted to the deceased, who are no longer with us.As we all know, November 1st is All Saints Day, which gives us an opportunity to pay our tributes to all Saints, not only the ones who are canonized and officially declared as Saints, but also all the souls of our dear departed which are already in Heaven, enjoying heavenly bliss. November 2nd is All Souls Day, dedicated to praying for the dead, more specifically for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, suffering and longing to attain the joys of heaven. It is through our intercessory prayers and sacrifices that these souls can attain their desired salvation.
3rd November,is the 18th Anniversary of our Church, being elevated to the status of a full fledged Church. On 3/11/2002, our St.Sebastian Chapel was elevated to St. Sebatian Church..a day cherished with happy memories..my greetings to all the parishioners on this happy occasion.
Our Parish Priest,Fr.Andrew Pereira, celebrates his 55th Birthday on 30th November.May God always bless him with good health and guide and protect him to continue doing the good work in our Lord’s Vineyard.
As I talk of Birthdays,it gives me immense joy to remind you that our beloved PORMOLL is completing 20 glorious years, next month i.e.December 2020.Started in Dec.2000, our magazine has grown by leaps and bounds, publishing articles contributed by so many parishioners. With active support from all of you,we have the unique distinction of printing and distributing the magazine to every household, absolutely free of cost.We intend to have a Special Issue to commemorate this happy event.I would humbly request you to send us your feedback, best wishes and also any articles written by you, to be printed on the Special Issue.
In these trying times, let us try to be large hearted and generous as generosity is a divine quality which brings us closest to God.It makes others happy but most of all,it brings us the kind of happiness that comes from deep within.
Until we meet again, take care and stay safe.
