HOW TO COPE UP WITH EXAMS

The summer holidays are just round the corner, but before you can relax, you’re going to need to get through the dreaded exam season.

Favor short, intensive periods of revision, rather than spending all day at the library. Sometimes it’s easier said than done, but keeping organized and starting your exam preparations early can really help to keep your nerves under control. Procrastination is many people’s favorite pastime, now is the time to force yourself into a routine, even if means watching less TV shows or movies or instagram.

  1. Figure a schedule of things you need to do; and spread things out so they feel more manageable. Many people find short bursts of studies are more productive than trying to cram eight hours of revision into one day.
  2. Its common sense, getting a good night’s sleep, drinking plenty of water, doing some physical exercise and eating well-all contribute to a balanced mental state. Avoid energy drinks and staying up late nights studying, you may find yourself heading for a burnout
  3. Practicing calming activities such as yoga or practicing meditation can also help to focus your mind.
  4. Listening to music can create a positive and productive environment. By elevating your mood and encouraging, you tend to study more effectively and for longer.
  5. Do something other than study. Go for a walk or swim, dance or go jogging. Take adequate breaks – it reduces stress, refreshes the mind and improves concentration.
  6. Use memory techniques. They are useful for remembering facts or processes. Revise actively, not passively. Passive revision involves just reading notes and copying the passages with limited to no understanding of the content. Active revision, however involves organising your material and making a real effort to understand the content. Focus on the concept rather than mugging.
  7. Believe in yourself – when being constantly forced with new challenges, we have come and how much we have already achieved. Given that you have prepared well, there should be no reason for you to worry. Therefore, when experiencing a negative thought, try replacing it with a positive one. Be Confident!!

“Whatever I get, I will be proud of myself and value how much I have already achieved”.

You can do this! Work hard and answer well.

Good Luck, everyone!
