Nativity of Mother Mary

On the birthday of Our Heavenly Mother Mary is celebrated on 8th September. It is also called as Mother’s day.

Mary was born to be the mother of the Saviour of the World. The spiritual mother of all men and the holiest of God’s creatures. Because of her son’s infinite merits. She was conceived and born Immaculate and full of Grace.

Through her, by the will of the Trinity, the unbelieving receive the gift of faith, the afflicted are tendered the works of mercy, and the members of Christ grow in likeness of their head, in Mary all human nature is exalted. We rejoice in her birthday as the Church has done from the earliest times. This is one of the three birthdays in the Church Calendar. The birth of Christ – 25th December, the birth of John the Baptist – 24th June and birthday of Mother Mary – 8th September. All three were born without Original sin.

Although Mary and Jesus were conceived without sin, and St. John the Baptist was cleansed of Original sin while in the womb at the visitation of Mary.

On Our Lady’s birthday the Church celebrates the first Dawning of Redemption, with the appearance in the world of the Saviour’s mother Mary the Blessed Virgin, occupies an unique place in the history of salvation and she has the highest mission ever commented to any creature.

We rejoice the Mother of God is our mother too. Let us often call upon the Blessed Virgin  as “Cause of Joy”, one of the most beautiful titles in her litany.

Mother Mary was born to Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. Mary’s father Joachim was a wealthy member of one on the “twelve tribes of Israel”. Joachim was deeply grieved along with his wife Anne by the childlessness. He called to mind Abraham that in her last days God gave a son Isac.

Joachim and Anne began to devote themselves extensively and rigorously to prayers, and fasting initially wondering wether their inability to conceive a child might signify God’s displeasure with them.

An angel revealed to Anne when he appeared to her and prophesized that all generations would honour their future child. The Lord has heard your prayer and you shall conceive and shall bring forth and your seed shall be spoken of in the al the world.

After Mary’s birth Joachim and Anne brought the child to the Priest and they blessed her and gave her an everlasting name to named in all generations. They offered her to God as a Consecrated Virgin to the rest of her life and enter a chaste marriage with the Carpenter Joseph.

Traditionally this feast or birthday of Mother Mary is celebrated nine months after we celebrate the feast of Mary’s Immaculate Conception on 8th December. So this feast is a great rejoicing in the Catholic Community
