SEBASTIAN SCHOOL REPORT

  1. World No Tobacco Day: It was observed in the school on 9th June 2017. Teacher Reema explained to the students the harmful effect of smoking and different diseases caused due to smoking particularly cancer.
  2. Feast of St. Anthony: It was celebrated on 13th After the assembly a talk was given by the Administrator on St. Anthony. A picture of St. Anthony was shown. She stressed on his deep faith in Jesus and the importance of lily flower and the bible.
  3. Inaugural Mass: It was held on 17th The mass was celebrated by Fr. Gregorio Cruz. He welcomed the students and blessed them and the teachers. The student’s choir was well trained for the Mass.

  1. Father’s Day: Father’s Day was observed on 19th The Administrator spoke on the role of father in building the Family and the responsibilities and sacrifices he makes towards the well-being of the family.
  2. International Yoga Day: It was observed on 21st Teacher Reema explained to the students the benefits of yoga. She also demonstrated various asanas and students repeated after her. Students enjoyed doing yoga.
  3. Eid-Ul-Fitr Celebration: It was celebrated on 23rd June in the school. Teacher Anjum explained to the students about the significance of the month, how fast is performed and its purpose and also about Zakat (donation). She also talked about how the end of the month is celebrated as Eid by the Muslim community. Teacher Misbah highlighted few messages of prophet Mohammed based on love, respect and unity amongst people of all religions
  4. Feast of St. John the Baptist : It was celebrated on 24th Teacher Valinca explained about St. John the Baptist and the significance of the tradition of jumping in the well was also explained. Students took part in ‘Copel’ competition. Three prizes were given to each class.
    The administrator also spoke about the danger of jumping in the well and pollution caused due to such activities.
  5. World Diabetics Day: It was observed on 1st July 2017 Tr. Anjum explained to the students about diabetics, how it is caused, types of diabetics and how it can be prevented. Students were asked to speak to their family members about this disease and its preventive measures.
  6. Monsoons –Role of Monsoons in our country: Monsoon Day was observed on 4th Teacher Valankany spoke about the positive and negative effect of monsoon. Monsoon helps the farmer; it recharges ground water level at the same time it can lead to flooding and that many people fall sick during monsoons.
  7. First Friday Mass: It was held on 6th July at 12:00 noon and was celebrated by the Manager Rev. Fr. Andrew Pereira. During the mass Fr spoke to the students about Abraham and stressed on obedience to God and His rewards. Teacher Chiara organized the choir. Students and teachers took part in readings. It was a well-organized mass.
  8. World Population Day: It was celebrated on 11th July 2017. After the assembly the Administrator highlighted the good and the bad effects of increasing population. She also spoke about the geographical factors which favours people to settle in particular areas but she added that it is important to have families who live a responsible life.
  9. Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel: It was celebrated on 15th July 2017. Teacher Marina explained about the appearance of Mother Mary to Simon Stock in his dream. She also spoke about the importance of wearing the scapular. Scapulars were distributed to the catholic students and teachers.
  10. Poster Making Competition: It was held on 15th Students of each class were divided into groups and each class was given different topic. Students worked together and prepared beautiful and meaningful charts. From each class one best chart was selected. Prizes and certificates were distributed during the assembly.
  11. Grandparent’s Day Celebration: It was celebrated on 26th Teacher Vallankany spoke about the grandparents of Jesus Christ, St. Anne and St Joaquim. The administrator spoke about the importance and role of grandparents in our life. Students made cards for their grandparents expressing their love.
  12. Vanamahotsava Celebration: It was held on 29th Teacher Vallankany explained to the students about the importance of this festival. Few students from Standard II and III highlighted the importance of trees through a speech and songs. A sapling was planted by our Administrator and by Father Greogorio Cruz. Quotes on trees and forests were displayed on the notice board. Each student had a small vase with a sapling grown at the school as a way of conveying the message that we need to green the earth.
  13. General Body Meeting of the PTA: It was held on 5th August ’17 at the old Church premises. The meeting started by invoking God’s blessing. The key speaker for the day was Bro. Malvino Alphonso from Carmelite Monastery who spoke on healthy Parenting. This was followed by the Reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting by the Secretary and the presentation of the Audited Statement of Accounts by the Treasurer. During the Break a ppt. of the school activities held till date was shown. The Chairperson Mrs. Malita Ozorio Fernandes thanked the parents for their support during her term. The new Committee for the term 2017-19 was formed. The Administrator and the Manager addressed the parents and urged them to give their time and love to the children which is very crucial. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks.
  14. Raksha Bandhan: It was celebrated on 7th Teacher Reema spoke about the significance of this day. She spoke that this festival is celebrated to show a beautiful bond between brother and sister. Ritual was performed by students of standard III. Later students tied rakhi to each other, which was prepared by them.
  15. Independence Day: It was celebrated on 15th The celebration began with a prayer service. The Chief Guest for the function was Rev.Fr Andrew Pereira the manager who did the honors of unfurling the National Flag .The Primary and Pre-primary students presented a meaningful cultural performance of dance and patriotic songs which included speeches by a student and teacher. The Manager Rev. Fr. Andrew spoke on the struggle of our freedom fighters and their dreams for a developed and peaceful nation but today their dreams are shattered on grounds of communalism, casteism, poverty etc. blocking the growth of the nation. The colourful programme ended with the vote of thanks and distribution of snacks sponsored by a generous parishioner.
