Every year the month of November is dedicated as a month for Holy Souls. We need to pray for the souls of our near and dear departed ones. As well as the unknown souls. Souls who have nobody to pray for, the abandoned souls. EVERY SOUL needs our prayer to their salvation. We have plenary indulgences during this month, whereby we get benefit of number of days in Purgatory.

We pray that everyone goes to heaven. Heaven is the ultimate goal. No one would like to go to hell. But due to various reasons, best known to souls, they go to Purgatory. These souls are in need of our prayers.

Why we should pray for these souls? These souls are in Purgatory because they are on trial and they will attain salvation only if we pray for them and redeem them.

They do suffer in Purgatory but their suffering in this place is only temporary as they will definitely go to heaven one day once they accomplish their salvation.

The Purgatory is a place of trial where they are undergoing punishment for their sins. Which may be venial, as they may have not done their repentance during their life. Therefore they have not been doomed, but are in a place where they can attain salvation only if we pray for them.

Many of us unfortunately commit mortal sins during our life. We confess them, but do not make due satisfaction for them, some of us who pass a part of our lives in commission of grave sins and confess them on our death beds, may be detained in Purgatory until even to the last day.

St. Gertrudes in her revelation states that those who have committed many grave sins and have not done due penance may not share in the ordinary suffrages of the church for a very considerable time.

The holy souls will repay us a thousand times over when they are finally released from the pains and enjoy the beatitude of heaven. Their gratitude knows no bounds. They will prostrate before the throne of God, they will never cease to pray for those who have helped them to attain salvation.

It is a time when we are invited once more to gratefully remember all our near and dear ones who have touched our lives. Let us lift them up to the Lord, in gratitude and pray for their eternal repose.

These are some prayers we can pray to ask eternal repose to Souls in Purgatory.  

• We pray to deliver their souls in Purgatory and specially that soul amongst them all, which is most destitute of spiritual aid bring it into your Glory.

Eternal rest give unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

• We pray to deliver the souls in Purgatory, specially that soul amongst them all which is nearest to its entrance into your Glory.
• We pray to deliver the souls in Purgatory and in particular that one amongst them all which would best to depart out of those pains.
• We pray to deliver the souls in purgatory and specially that soul which is richest in merits before you.
• We pray to deliver the souls in Purgatory and specially that one which is most devoted to this mystery of infinite love.
• We pray to deliver the souls in Purgatory and in particular that soul for which I am most bound to pray.
• We pray to deliver the souls in Purgatory specially that one amongst them all, which was most devout to Mother Mary.

These prayers if we pray, we will definitely help them to attain salvation.

We must not ignore souls or the ones who have died earlier than us because we too will die one day and plead for prayers.

So let us make a habit to pray for the souls not only in this month, but in all the months of the year.
