2019 Novel CORONA VIRUS (2019 – n Co V)

The 2019 Novel Corona Virus (2019 – n Co V), is a new virus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The virus, probably, originally emerged from an animal source but now seems to be spreading from person-to-person, when an infected person coughs or sneezes or on close contact with an infected person.

Symptoms for patients are acute onset

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing.

If you develop symptoms, visit the nearest health facility for advice and treatment.

As there is no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment, the best way to prevent infection is to avoid exposure to this virus.

  • Avoid all non –essential travel to China or affected countries. For further details check travel advisory issued by MoHFW, GoI available on website (ww.mohfw.gov.in).
  • Observe good personal hygiene.
  • Practice frequent hand washing with soap
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing

Any person(s) suggestive of 2019 nCoV should be reported to the health authorities.

E.g.    – History of travel to or residence in China in the 14 days prior

– Contact with the above person

– Close contact with a confirmed case in the last 14 days

SOME GUIDELINES FOR 2019 – nCoV:

  1. Be informed about the illness.
  2. Avoid close contact with other suspect cases.
  3. Avoid frequent touching of face.
  4. Avoid hand shaking
  5. Wash hands frequently with soap
  6. Take plenty of fluids
  7. Follow cough etiquette to minimize spread
  • Cover mouth with tissue / handkerchief when coughing or sneezing
  • Turn away from others when coughing or sneezing
  • Maintain at least 2 metres distance from others when coughing or sneezing
  • Do not spit / blow your nose here and there
