Parish Catechetical Association Report

The catechetical year 2019-2020 of St Sebastian Church, Aquem began on 16th June 2019 with the catechetical theme, ‘Go and do Likewise’.

The members of the executive committee chosen by the catechists to carry out the year-round activities were as follows:

  • INAUGURAL MASS: The catechetical year began on 16th June with the inaugural mass organized by the catechists and students.
  • GRANDPARENT’S DAY: The grandparent’s day was organized by the association to thank our grandparent’s for all their love, support and guidance throughout our lives on 28th July 2019. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration followed by a small program put up by our students along with our catechists.
  • BIBLE QUIZ: Bible quiz is a program put up by our catechists not only to test a child’s knowledge about the Bible but also to deepen each one’s faith. This was organized on 11thJuly 2019. The Quiz was organized on two levels; junior and senior.
  • GOAN TRADITIONAL SWEETS EXHIBITION BY PARENTS: was organized on 18th July 2019. The main focus was to keep alive our traditional dishes as we all are heading towards modernization. Parents participated in a cheerful mood.
  • MOUNT MARY NOVENA: began on 30th August 2019. Each class was marked one novena. Children helped in singing the Rosary every day before mass and also sang and played instruments in the choir for mass.
  • MOTHER’S DAY: A mother is one who can take the place of all, but whose place no one else can take. On 8th September we successfully organized Mother’s Day. The day witnessed the presence of all the mothers of catechism students first during the Eucharistic celebration followed by a short program put forth by students under the guidance of their catechists.
  • PICNIC: Every child needs to grow not only spiritually but also in all other aspects of live. Keeping this in mind our catechism children had a day out at Selaulim Dam with the catechists on the 27th of October 2019.
  • STAR, CANDLE, WREATH MAKING COMPETITION: Christmas is a time to welcome our savior into our hearts and home. On this note, a star, candle and wreath decoration competition was organized by the association on 24th November Children creatively put up items with teamwork and dedication as its core.
  • CAROLS, TABLEAU AND SERENADING: Christmas also being a time to spread love and joy; not forgetting the Good news that “JESUS CHRIST IS BORN”, our children put up carols and tableau before the mid night mass on the 24th of December 2019. Serenading also was conducted by our catechist’s and catechism children in every ward in order to build fellowship.
  • INFANT’S MASS: it commemorates the day of  killing of the infants by king Herod. A Eucharistic celebration was held on 28th December 2019 followed by special blessings on all the infants after mass.
  • FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: This year of our students received their first holy communion on 19th The day witnessed a glimpse of tiny angels dressed in their best. The mass celebration was done with great enthusiasm, followed by a cake cutting ceremony and snacks distribution.
  • EVENING WITH JESUS: Catechists besides their Sunday classes and busy schedule meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month and spend time in the midst of the Blessed Sacrament to deepen their faith.
  • JEZUCHE SONDEXKAR: is a diploma course in catechesis to be done by catechists. Our catechist Andrea Fernandes is attending the same.
  • JESUZ: is a group formed by the DCC where two catechists represent their respective church. Here the marked catechists from various Parish’s allover Goa meet together to discuss problems faced, share ideas on different topics and work in unison towards the betterment of the association as a whole.
