We are in the summer months experiencing increase in heat conditions with researchers warning of heat waves linked to the climate change. Elsewhere in India, in places like Maharashtra, many people are severely effected by heat waves and many lives have been lost due to heat strokes. We are being cautioned that the frequency and intensity of heat waves are likely to increase further in the coming days. The green cover is getting depleted due to large – scale development and concrete jungles are coming up all over. The necessity of maintaining a balance is ignored by our greed and the attitude of turning a Nelson’s eye to the illegalities by the powers that be. We need to take the experts’ views seriously and preserve at least what is left for the future generations. Many a times, vast areas of agricultural lands, traditional irrigation systems and other infrastructures are being destroyed or damaged due to unsustainable changes to land use plans, improper and haphazard management of construction debris and also the degradation of water related eco-systems. At the height of it all, we then blame all this to the climate change without any feeling of guilt or remorse. It appears that we pretend to be blind towards the injustice meted out to the environment.  We forget that God has created it and out of His immense love for us, He has put us in charge to preserve it and nurture it. Today if we look around it hurts to see the destruction and the ‘care a damn attitude. We do not realize that we ourselves have been the culprits and are facing the consequences today. Let us resolve to be kind and friendly with the nature and ensure that we live in harmony so that our days ahead and those of the future generations are bright and sunny. Let us ensure “nature-friendly” atmosphere all around us.

Until we meet again.
