End of the Journey

It is with a deep sense of sorrow and regret that I have to write on a subject which all of us dread -DEATH – the sudden and unexpected news about the passing away of our Editor Prof. Synesio Alfred Antao, shocked us all. It was on the early morning of Thursday 16th August 2018, when he answered the Lords call and breathed his last.

Antao was a man of faith and belief in God, born on 19th July 1951, to late Mario and Alzina Antao. His wife late Maria Agnela Sousa Antao, predeceased him over a year back. Although crestfallen, since then, the company of his two sons, Fr. Seville (OFM, CAP) and Sydroy, kept him in his usual, cool and calm self.

His tenure, as a lecturer in Chowgule College, made a positive impact in the lives of many students, parents and other staff concerned. He was an ardent follower of Jesus and was instrumental in starting the devotion of Devine Mercy in our Parish. He was a member of practically all the associations of our Parish such as Cofre, PPC, SSVP (of which he was the founder members) and held different positions to perfection. He was the Editor of our magazine, “PORMOLL” for the past couple of years and even attended the last Editorial Board Meeting. To sum it all, I can say, he was an intellectual spiritual personality leading a simple life.

He went through a bad phase of serious illness which he fought well with self-belief and trust in God. In fact we all felt that it was a miraculous recovery. But God had a different plan for him and could not survive the last attack. In his son Fr. Seville’s words for his late father, “my father survived the raging storm but got caught up in a drizzle”. This really sums up our thoughts on his passing away of Prof. Antao.

We at, PORMOLL, pay our respectful homage to our late Editor, and pray that God grants him eternal rest. We also express our sincere heartfelt condolences to his sons, Fr. Seville and Sydroy.
