Pormoll Editorial Dec 2020

The prevailing conditions did not permit us to print our beloved magazine for the past few months. But with God’s grace, we are happy to be back. What better time to lay it in your hands, than to be celebrating the 21st Anniversary Issue? Yes my dear friends, December 1999, saw the birth of PORMOLL. I have vivid memories of that unfolding event.

The initiative taken by our then Chaplain, Fr. James Torres è Silva and his zeal and determination galvanized many of us and our concerted and collaborative efforts bore fruits. Although new to the concept, we were very well guided by late Richard Rodrigues, who took the full responsibility of getting the magazine printed. The typing work was painstakingly taken care of in the office by Ms. Savia Fernandes. All the members of the Editorial Board left no stone unturned to ensure that our magazine made its debut appearance in the hands of our Parishioners. It’s been a long journey of 21 years and like a relay race, we are moving on, under the leadership of Fr. James, Fr. Ligorinho D’Costa and presently Fr. Andrew Pereira. Many Parishioners, including the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent, have contributed towards the success story with their articles, suggestions, advertisements and above all, being on the Editorial Board. I place on record the efforts put in by our late Board members, Dr. Alfredo Antao, Archibald Gomes and Otilia Clovis da Costa. As you are aware the uniqueness of our magazine is its FREE distribution to every Parish household. Let us rejoice and wish a long and successful journey to our ‘Pormoll’, May it spread its fragrance far and wide…!!!

In keeping with our Bishop’s pastoral letter, most of the articles in this issue have been written with a main theme, namely “Born to witness Christ”— through various means, such as Missionary work, holiness, family life, environment etc. Jesus calls us to be His witness on this Earth. Let us listen to His call.

We are already in the season of Advent and preparing ourselves to receive our Saviour, Baby Jesus on Christmas Day. Although it appears that the celebrations, this year will be subdued, let us all feel all the love and joy of the occasion. May the closeness of family and friends in the comfort of your homes, renew your festive spirits. Let us wish each other and deliver gifts of love and peace to one and all.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas 2020 and a Happy New Year 2021.
