Saint Mary Magdalene

On 22nd July is the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene. Strange isn’t it, for someone who has been labelled ‘a prostitute’?

In western Christian history, they have confused Mary Magdalene with Mary of Bethany, and the woman caught in adultery. Mary of Magdala was the one from whom Jesus had driven out seven demons. It consumed her whole life. Jesus was the only one who could save her, and He did (Mk 16:9). It is no wonder that she followed Him throughout His ministry. She had grown in her love for Jesus. This can only happen when someone is touched by Jesus, genuinely experiencing a conversion of the heart.

Popular literatures find it difficult to understand this love relationship between Mary Magdalene and Jesus, and so interpret it as a “worldly” love relationship. They do not understand the depth with which one is supposed to love Jesus, and be loved by Him. Read more

St. Anthony’s Feast and Trezen

The Feast of St. Anthony was celebrated on Monday, 13th June 2022, at the Tollebando, Aquem Chapel, with a lot of fervour and passion. Parish Priest of Nagoa Church, Fr. Edson Fernandes, was the Main Celebrant for the Feast Mass. Our Parish Priest, Fr. Andrew Pereira, Ex-Parish Priest Fr. James Torres e Silva, Ex-parish Priest Fr. Mary, Mother of the Church

The title “Mary, Mother of the Church” reflects the deep conviction of the Christian faithful, who see in Mary not only the mother of the person of Christ, but also of the faithful. Mary had been present at the very beginnings of the Church. The Church has traditionally portrayed the Blessed Virgin Mary together with the apostles and disciples gathered at that first Pentecost, joined in prayer with the first members of the Church.

In Roman Catholic Mariology, Mother of the Church (Latin: Mater Ecclesiae) is a title officially given to Mary by Pope Paul VI. The title first appeared in the 4th century writings of Saint Ambrose of Milan, as rediscovered by Hugo Rahner. It was also used by Pope Benedict XIV in 1748 and then by Pope Leo XIII in 1885. Pope John Paul II placed it in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Pope Francis inserted a feast by this title into the Roman Calendar on 6th June. Read more

The Trinity – Holiest Family

On 12th June, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. As you know, the Holy Trinity is God the Father, His son Jesus and The Holy Spirit. – 3 persons, one in nature. It is because God the Father sent His son Jesus into the world that this dimension of the Holy Trinity was revealed to us. Jesus Himself invites us to be one with the Family of the Holy Trinity. Inviting someone into your family indicates closeness, where you are permitting your family to be exposed to that person.

The Trinity is the First Holy Family. It is the Holiest of holiest family. It comforts us in all we go through in life. We need one or the other person of the Trinity at various times according to the situations we face in life. There are times when we need the Strength and Authority of the Father. When we fall into sin, feel guilty and unworthy – we need the Love and Forgiveness of Jesus. Again, there are times when we feel low, inadequate, literally “small” – we call on the Holy Spirit who comes to us, charged with the Power to transform our life. We need to accept the Invitation of Jesus, to be part of His Holy Family. Read more

Importance of Holy Spirit in out life

Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity: The “Triune God” manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each Person being God. Two symbols from the New Testament canon are associated with the Holy Spirit in Christian iconography: a winged dove, and tongues of fire. Each depiction of the Holy Spirit arose from different accounts in the Gospel narratives; the first being at the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River where the Holy Spirit was said to descend in the form of a dove as the voice of God the Father spoke as described in Matthew, Mark, and Luke; the second being from the day of Pentecost, fifty days after Easter where the descent of the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as tongues of fire as described in the Acts of the Apostles, as promised by Jesus in His farewell discourse. The Holy Spirit is the One who empowers the followers of Jesus with spiritual gifts and power that enables the proclamation of Jesus Christ, and the power that brings conviction of faith. Read more
