Editorial – November 2023

The older you get, the more quiet you become. Life humbles you so deeply as you so deeply as you age, and it is a Miracle as every breath we take, every step we make, is a gift from GOD.

I recently turned 70, giving me an opportunity to thank the Almighty for this amazing and lovely gift called LIFE. I was more than fortunate to be able to do so at the feet of Our Lady of Lourdes in Lourdes, France. It was an amazing day which will be remembered for a long, long time. God has unique and unbelievable plans for all of us and that is precisely what I experienced in Lourdes, not forgetting the surprise party in UK attended by my family and friends. Although I was beyond Indian borders and across oceans, I was clean bowled by the number of phone calls and messages on every possible media. Like a little child, I cried tears of joy, gratitude and love.

The ultimate truth is, we are in the dark, not knowing what lies ahead for all of us. Nonetheless, here on earth we work, so hard to buy and accumulate things. We do not realize that at the end of the day, other people will be going through our stuff trying to figure out whether to discard or retain it. I firmly believe that the most important thing of the highest value, would be the Memories we create and deposit into others. Would it not be more rewarding to spend less time accumulating worldly things and spend way more time making Memories with our family and friends? I remember reading a clip wherein it was mentioned that the most important part of our body is the shoulder. Not because it holds up my head, but because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one, a shoulder to cry on. It is therefore imperative that we have enough love and good number of family n friends to ensure that we will always have a shoulder to cry on when we need it. This part of our body is sympathetic to the pain of others and is made for others and not for yourself. Remember people will forget what you said and what you did but surely they will never forget how you made them feel. Feelings will last a lifetime because good friends are like stars….. you don’t always see them, but you always know, they are there for you!

Our Vicar, Fr. Andrew Pereira, will turn 58, on 30th November. As he celebrates his birthday, we wish to thank him for all the good work happening in our Parish and seek God’s choicest blessings on him always with good health and happiness.

3rd November 2003, was a momentous day for our Aquem Parish, when on that day St. Sebastian Chapel was elevated to the status of a full – fledged Church and St. Sebastian Church, Aquem, came into existence. Hearty Congratulations on the Twentieth Anniversary of this historic event. Let us all rejoice and thank God for allowing our Church to thrive. May this anniversary come with the blessings towards uplifting for the Church and all its members.

Till we meet again, take care and be safe.
