The visit to the Old Age Home in Benaulim on 23rd December 2018, was one of the most memorable celebration and preparation before Christmas day. On the 23rd December, we the confirmation students visited the Home for the aged. There was singing in the bus till we finally reached our destination. When we entered the Old Age Home we were greeted with elderly, cheerful and smiling faces with warm and gentle hearts. We started entertaining them by first singing carols. The Old Age Home inmates joined us in singing and surprised us with their melodious voices. We then enacted a skit on the importance of celebrating Christmas not only with family members but also with those who have no one to celebrate with. There was joy of acceptance in their eyes and they applauded our skit. They were so overwhelmed that they joined us in dance and celebration. Then they gave us the most valuable gift that one can get from an elder, “their loving and sincere blessing”. This trip made me realize that a little time and care given to elderly family members can go a long way to give them a sense of love, belonging and a smile on their face.
