We enter the month of November, thinking that in two months we will see the close of 2022, which is true. However according to the Liturgical Calendar (the church calendar), November is actually the last month of the year. The 4th Sunday of November is the 1st Sunday of Advent and the start of the New Liturgical year.

The Liturgical year begins with the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, followed by the Epiphany, 8 weeks of the Ordinary Times, Lent, Passion of Our Lord, Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost (the birthday of the church). Another 24 weeks of Ordinary Times follow, ending with the kingship of Jesus on the 3rd Sunday of November. The calendar is designed to begin and end with Jesus Christ. We all face so many different types of sicknesses, as well as deadly diseases. Who was Mahatma Gandhi
Born on 2nd October 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was India’s tallest leader of the independence movement. He successfully led India’s non-violent movement against the British, which in turn inspired many civil rights movements across the world.

Gandhi had studied law and he went to South Africa to represent a client. Upon return, he joined the Indian National Congress and led nationwide campaigns for farmers, peasants, and labourers. He also fought against caste discrimination and fought for expanding women’s rights.

He led some of the most historic movements in India’s freedom struggle. He led Indians to break the salt law, through the Dandi March in 1930, which helped Indians believe that they can challenge the might of the British. He also led the Quit India movement in 1942. Read more

Today there is a lot of mass media awareness, which can be harnessed to bring about good change in the world; at the same time it could also be misused.

As can be seen from the graph given here, the mass media source with maximum and growing influence is Social Media. Direct sources are a close second, however the percentage influence in old and young alike is gradually reducing. The percentage of men and women in the age group of 15-49 yrs. who, at least once a week, read newspaper/magazine, listen to radio and watch TV is 31.8% (men) and 24.4% (women). As per National Family Health Survey 2019-2021, the current trend shows that the habit of reading newspapers and magazines, has drastically decreased. Read more

St. Maria Faustina Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament was born in Poland as Helena Kowalska on Aug. 25, 1905. Young Helena had no intention of entering religious life, but at age 19, while attending a dance with her sister Natalia in Lodz, she had a vision of a suffering Jesus, who asked her, “How long shall I put up with you and how long will you keep putting Me off?” After praying at the Cathedral she departed for Warsaw, where she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. On April 30, 1926, at the age of 20, she was clothed in the habit and received her religious name.

Faustina wrote that on the night of Sunday, Feb. 22, 1931, while she was in her cell in Plock, Poland, after partially recovering from tuberculosis, Jesus appeared wearing a white garment with red and pale rays emanating from his heart. According to her diary, Jesus told her to “Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: ‘Jesus, I trust in You’. I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and then throughout the world. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.” Read more
